After an unsettled period created by LEA reoganisations, instrumental music has re-established itself confidently, and performance groups continue to impress with their technical and artistic assurance. However, the teaching which supports all this should not happen (or be thought to happen) in isolation from curriculum work. Similar in layout and length to the Governors document, ITALIC offers a firm rationale, where the teaching in each should complement the other, and identifies good practice which is common to both. The ways in which the essential features of Performing, Composing and Appraising relate to instrumental teaching is set out alongside advice on teaching and learning styles.
