| A big thank you to everyone who has responded to the Music Provision at Key Stage 3 and 14-19 survey we’re currently running. Although the questionnaire is still open, we’ve been looking at the first month’s replies and, even though we haven’t yet studied the results closely, click here for some early findings. |

The survey only takes about 10 minutes to complete and so if you are a secondary teacher and would like to contribute, please click on the link in News & Events (to the right of this column).
The final question asks what people would like NAME to be doing on their behalf. We will of course be looking closely at these suggestions. But, in the meantime, to those who mentioned networking opportunities and, especially, to the NQT who asked for ‘Help with creating links between music teachers in schools to share ideas and resources’, you will be glad to know that not only will there will be more opportunities to network using the new NAME website, but that the Teaching Music website goes from strength to strength and currently (mid August) has 1875 members. As you can tell from the range of responses in the survey, there is no one way of doing things. That means that someone, somewhere, is likely to be facing the same kind of issues as you and would be glad to share experiences. It also means that someone, somewhere, could already have done what you’re now planning and will be able to give advice. Talking of the new NAME website: we’re approaching the last chance (Friday 4 September) to book for our annual conference in York on the 18-20 September, when the website will be launched in the middle of a full and varied programme centred, this year, round the theme of Musical Development. Visit the Conference page for further details and a booking form. More big news for music education is the DCSF’s recent announcement of a Year of Music (see News & Events). This year of celebrating music promises to provide unprecedented opportunities for children and young people across the country to participate in a range of activities. Watch out for details of the launch early in September. | |
