Conference 2000 - Creative Solutions
Michael Tippett Centre, Bath Spa University

The NAME 2000 Conference provided the perfect opportunity to meet others working in the field of Music Education. We were delighted that so many key people in music education agreed to join us and present their ideas at the conference.

The Conference brought together several strands of interest in music education, looking for creative solutions to the problems we encounter both in and outside the classroom. Presentations were given on areas of research which have very practical applications for teachers in the classroom. Workshops explored practical activities and principles and encompassed different cultural traditions, recently published materials, phase specific issues and music technology.

Keynote speakers included a composer talking about the creative process, and headteachers bringing their experience and perspectives on managing and developing the arts in schools. We had an in depth look at certain aspects of the revised curriculums for England and Wales and there were opportunities for conference members to discuss their particular situations in focus groups, informal presentations and regional meetings. A publishers exhibition was available throughout the conference weekend.
