Conference 2008
ICC Birmingham - October 10/11

Visit the
ICC website for full details of venue.
Partnership and Collaboration is the theme of this year's NAME Conference.
It takes place in Birmingham, a city rich in culture and arts practice.
Throughout the two days, breakout sessions will concentrate on a number of
themes. Partnership in Action will give us opportunities to see and hear
about a number of current and recent projects, in which arts organisations
have engaged with music education in both formal and non-formal settings.
Reflecting the wide interest and background of delegates, breakout session
strands will cover music education for Early Years and Key Stage 1 through
to the secondary and post-16 stage.
Each day begins with a keynote speech. On Friday morning we are joined by
Tony Howell, Strategic Director - Children, Young People & Families at
Birmingham City Council. He has been inspirational in his support for music
and the arts in education in one of the largest local authorities in the UK.
On Saturday we welcome back Tony Knight, Ofsted's Specialist Adviser for
Music.
The Teaching Music website will be officially launched on Friday afternoon.
The provision of on-line resources to support music educators in all areas
of the profession has been developed in partnership with the Music Education
council with funding from the Training and Development Agency.
On Saturday evening we will join the CBSO in Symphony Hall for a programme
of music specifically devised for the NAME Conference.
The Conference is sponsored by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of
Music, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Charanga, Inspire Works, Motif
Media, Sing Up and Sibelius.
