Conference 2002
Kent Hills Park, Milton Keynes, 4/5/6 October
This year's conference was once again a great success. Entitled "Musical
Challenges and Solutions", it consisted of a combination of workshops,
research presentations and keynote speakers, which certainly challenged and
stimulated delegates although they may not always have provided solutions.
Workshops included practical sessions on topics such world and traditional
music, music technology, vocal music, composing, community music, as well as
activities for a range of age groups. Research seminars included
presentations on GCSE, assessment, rock music, and instrumental teaching.
Keynote speeches were given by Tony Knight, Principal Subject Officer for
Music, Arts and Culture for the QCA; George Caird, Chair of the Music
Education Council and Principal of Birmingham Conservatoire; Mela Watts,
Divisional Manager of the Curriculum Division at the DfES; and Margaret
Griffiths, HMI. Trade stands were another important aspect of the
conference, and last but not least, the conference, as always, provided NAME
members and other delegates with an invaluable opportunity to meet, network,
and discuss current issues.
Each year, an edition of the NAME magazine focuses on conference
presentations and reports. This is free to NAME members and available to non
members for £3.50. Please contact the NAME administrator for details.
